Tour of the Fireflies is an annual event organized by the Firefly Brigade. The tour attracts cyclists from all walks of life and of all ages for a treat of a bike tour around the cities of Metro Manila; still to promote cycling as an environment friendly and healthy form of transportation around the cities.
This was my first time to join. I wanted to join the year before, but work schedule got in the way. This year, I was lucky enough to participate. For this tour, we will pass through 8 cities in Metro Manila – Pasig, Marikina, San Juan, Taguig, Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila and Quezon City. The route had its share of long uphills, flyovers, narrow streets, fast downhills and the usual manila traffic. It challenged the first timers and the seasoned bikers, and it was also fun to see kids as young as 5 or 6 years old pedaling alongside us.
The tour started at Tiendesitas in Pasig. The place was packed with bikers from all over the metro and some from provinces hours from the city. Various bike groups, riding different kinds of bikes and from all walks of life, were represented in the tour. It can be best described as a sea of bikers as far as the eye can see.
Different countries were also represented, courtesy of the Miss World candidates who joined the tour.
